What is this newfangled term you have never heard of #nutritionaltherapy? Maybe you have heard of it, but don’t really know what it means or how it works.
Strictly in my terms, nutritional therapy is learning how to shift what you eat, how you approach stress, the importance of play and addressing underlying causes for the benefit of wellness, healing and higher quality of life.
It might sound radical or trendy, but it’s not. The premises of the system is quite primal. Not like live with no electricity kinda primal but eat real food kinda primal. Skip the center of the grocery store and head for the food with no label.
You have to be ready for it. It’s not a quick fix. It won’t heal your chronic migraines or eczema overnight. I don’t just recommend supplements and bark off orders about not eating fast food.
I realize in a microwave kinda world, that I am offering slow cooker approach. I never thought I would be one to go for the long throw, but I gotta tell ya, it works.
Now, let’s carry on to answer some questions about nutritional therapy.
WHO can benefit from nutritional therapy?
Whether you are an accomplished athlete, a busy parent, an entrepreneur or a retired nomad, you can benefit from nutritional therapy. Do you suffer from symptoms such as:
- Autoimmune Disease
- Bloating
- Heartburn
- Fatigue
- stomach pain/IBS
- constipation and/or diarrhea
- insomnia
- mood swings/anxiety/depression
- hair loss
- dry skin/eczema
- headaches
Don’t just treat the symptom when you can find the underlying cause. Such symptoms can be targeted back to an imbalance or deficiency in the body. Nutritional Therapy can help!
WHAT is nutritional therapy?
Just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s normal. Do you believe that because your Mother has type 2 diabetes and cancer runs in your family that you are doomed to suffer from these illness’ as well? That it’s “just a matter of time”. Generationally, you do have to power to turn things around.
In nutritional therapy, you take small steps to shift what you think, how you eat, the connection of food to your symptoms and the importance of movement and play. It’s not about eat this, don’t eat that. And you simply cannot out supplement a poor diet.
Of course, there are no guarantees in life (except for, as my Mother would say, death and taxes) but you can take a proactive role in feeling and doing your best to live life as fully and as joyfully as possible.
What is it that you dream of doing that perhaps your health has stopped you from doing? Nutritional therapy is a unique, holistic and foundational approach for you to gain control of your health and well-being.
WHERE did I get my nutritional therapy certification from?
I am a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner through the Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA) based in Olympia, Washington. The NTA’s guiding principles are based on the teachings of Dr. Weston A. Price and Dr. Frances M. Pottenger, Jr. They are the pioneers that spent long, arduous trips in less than optimal conditions collecting research, data and talking to the natives about food and commerce.
The NTA recognizes the bioindividuality of each person, strives to make the world a more sustainable place, honors ancestral wisdom and practices what they preach. Let’s not forget that they care deeply for each other, the planet and their mission.
WHEN is a good time to start nutritional therapy?
If you are reading this, the time to start is NOW, but only if you are ready to take the next step. We all move forward at our own pace. If you are curious but not ready, just stick around. You can at least learn something until you are ready.
Preventative measures are always best, right? But if you anything like me, you sometimes wait till things are a real issue before you deal with them.
Maybe you struggle with your weight and the thought of another salad or low-fat diet makes you want to body slam into a tub of cheeseburgers and chocolate cake. Yea, I’ve been there.
Maybe the doctor just handed down the news that you have metabolic syndrome, high cholesterol or some other life altering news.
Whatever you are dealing with and however you are in dealing with it, nutritional therapy is a great place to gain support, knowledge and some mind-blowing encouragement about the life you are facing moving forward. When ya know better, ya do better.
One step at a time and however that looks for you as an individual. My story will look different than yours, and I think that’s awesome.
Why try nutritional therapy?
I like to dig for answers. Well, I at least like to understand why sometimes. Explain to me your cause and help me to understand how things affect me and those I care about.
Perhaps you aren’t too fond of the idea of taking a pill, patch, liquid or shake to help you feel better. I’m not saying they don’t always work but I certainly don’t believe, unless you are on life saving meds of course, that they are great for the long run.
It’s not a sustainable approach. It doesn’t fix what caused the problem. There are a handful of reasons you have XYZ symptoms.
My whole life I wondered why we couldn’t just change what we eat, how we do things or why we wouldn’t just consider another perspective of things when something isn’t working. Seems logical to me and Iβm all about the logic.
Iβve been there and I remember the fatigue, stress and broken sleep. You’ll find once you slow down enough to just take a moment and pay attention…to develop this habit and practice it more and more, your body will give back to 10 fold…or maybe 9 fold or 15 fold. It’s not an exact science, but you will notice…a difference.
Why now? Why not?
Invest in yourself as much as you would invest into someONE or someTHING else. You are worth it. Cliche’ maybe, but true. Besides you can’t have good relationships when you aren’t thinking clearly, setting boundaries or taking care of the body you use to inhabit this planet.
